What is the Firaxis Feature Workshop?
Earlier this year, we launched the first-ever Firaxis Feature Workshop - a new community space where we invite Civilization VII players to help us shape in-development features before they arrive in the main game.
We recently wrapped up Round 2, where Workshoppers helped test reworked approaches to Victories and Legacy Paths, along with a new (optional) way to play as the same civilization across all three Ages. Together, these new and updated systems are part of what we’re calling the “Test of Time” update. If you’d like a deeper look at what’s included, you can check out our article celebrating Civilization VII’s first anniversary.
As we head into Round 3, our goal is to continue refining these features together with the community before the Test of Time update, currently planned for release this Spring.
Round 3
Round 3 is just around the corner, currently planned to begin during the week of March 30, 2026.
Just like in the previous round, current Workshoppers can request Steam Playtest Keys directly in the Workshop Discord to share with other Civ VII players.
We’ve also added a keyshare channel in the official Civilization Discord. If you have extra keys to pass along or you’re hoping to join the playtest, this is a great place for players to connect and help grow the Workshop community.
*Don’t forget to join the Firaxis Feature Workshop Discord! If you have a Steam Playtest Key, that is your Discord Entry Code! Once inside, you’ll gain access to Workshop discussion channels, updates from the team, and a place to share feedback with fellow players.
A Huge Thank You to Our Round 2 Workshoppers
To everyone who joined us in Round 2 - whether you were returning from the first round or stepping into the Workshop for the first time - thank you for the time, passion, and thoughtful feedback you shared with the team.
If you participated in a previous round, you’re automatically eligible to join us again for Round 3. We’d love to have you back to see how your feedback continues to influence the future of Civ VII.
FAQs
ACCESS & INVITATIONS
Why are we opening the Firaxis Feature Workshop to more players now?
Round 1 was designed to be a focused, collaborative space meant to validate core concepts with a smaller group of dedicated players. Now, our goal is to further test the game’s updated infrastructure and systems at a larger scale. Expanding the workshop allows us to gather broader data and see how the "Test of Time" content holds up when more players are interacting simultaneously.
How do I join the Firaxis Feature Workshop for Round 3?
For Round 3, we are growing through our Discord community. If you know a current Workshop participant, ask them for a Workshop invite! Or, head over to our keysharing channel in the Civ Official Discord to match up with players that have keys to provide. Once you join the server, you’ll find instructions on how to access the Steam build (and generate your own shareable keys!). Also, keep an eye on Civ creators, who may be distributing Workshop access keys to their communities.
Why do I need an invitation? How can I join if I am not invited?
While we are expanding, this is still a work-in-progress environment. Using a "buddy system" allows us to grow the community organically while ensuring new participants have a connection to players who understand the Workshop culture. If you haven't been invited, follow our official community hubs and partnered creators for potential key drops!
Can I pre-download the build before the Round starts?
No. While you can accept an invite and join the Discord community starting March 24, the build will not be available for download until Round 3 officially begins.
I redeemed my key, but the Workshop isn't in my Library. Why?
If Round 3 has officially begun and you are not seeing the Workshop in your library after you’ve redeemed your key, please ensure you are checking the Steam Library on a PC and own the base game on that account. You may also need to restart the Steam client.
Is there a limit to how many people can join?
Yes. To ensure our team can meaningfully process feedback, we have implemented a total player cap. Once we hit that limit, the invitation system will be paused. We recommend accepting and verifying your invite as soon as possible.
What if I am invited to participate but am unavailable to play during the Round 3 window?
No problem! Participation is entirely voluntary. If you can’t make this round, stay tuned for potential future Firaxis Feature Workshop opportunities.
