APEX AGE: EXPLORATION

Tawantinsuyu, "the empire in four parts," was ruled by the Inca, and extended across the Andes mountains, building roads and waystations, terraced fields and silver mines – an empire in the sky. Under the Inca was a diverse collection of subjects, languages, and cultures, but no writing or coinage. Yet the empire came to a crashing end upon the arrival of the Spanish, and smallpox.

Unique Ability

Apus: 

Antiquity Age: Mountain tiles can be worked. Increased Food and Production on Mountain tiles.

Exploration Age (Apex): Mountain tiles can be worked. Further increased Food on Mountain tiles. After completing the Qhapaq Nan Civic, can generate Homelands Treasure Convoys in Cities that contain a set number of worked Mountain titles.

Modern Age: Mountain tiles can be worked. Further increased Food and increased Production on Mountain tiles.

  • Tier 1, Antiquity Age (Affirmation): Increased Food in Settlements with their City Center adjacent to a Mountain tile or with a minimum number of worked Mountain tiles.

  • Tier 1, Exploration Age (Apex): Settlements receive increased Gold for every Urban Population and increased Production for every Rural Population.
  • Qullqa
  • Tier 1, Exploration Age (Apex): Cities receive increased Food for each of your active Trade Routes.
  • Tier 2, Modern Age: Further increased Food.
  • Tirakuna
  • Tier 1, Antiquity Age: Food Buildings receive an Adjacency with Mountains. Rough Terrain does not end Unit Movement.
  • Tier 2, Exploration Age (Apex): Food and Gold Buildings receive an Adjacency with Mountains. Rough Terrain does not end Unit Movement.

Unique Infrastructure

Terrace Farm: Unique Building. Greatly increases Food, but can only be placed on a Rough tile without a River or Features. Increased Gold for adjacent Buildings.

Unique Civilian Unit 

Chasqui: Unique Scout Unit. Has increased Movement and Sight, and can see through Mountain and Rough tiles.

Unique Military Unit 

Warak'aq: Unique Ranged Unit. Has high Movement and ignores Rough penalties during Movement. Has increased Combat Strength when attacking from Rough tiles. 

Associated Wonder 

Machu Pikchu: Increased Gold. Buildings gain increased Culture and Gold Adjacency with Mountain tiles. Must be placed on a Grassland or Tropical Mountain tile. The Inca receive increased Production toward constructing this Wonder.

Gameplay Tip

The Terrace Farm does not have to be next to a Mountain; it can go on any Rough Terrain that doesn't have a River or other Feature. Instead, you want to put your Food and Gold Buildings adjacent to Mounts with the Tirakuna Tradition.
